New Delhi: The 57-day-long Amarnath Yatra 2026 officially commenced on Friday, with Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extending greetings to devotees embarking on the sacred pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave in Jammu and Kashmir.
The pilgrimage, one of the most significant spiritual journeys in India, will continue until August 28 this year.
Amarnath Yatra 2026 Begins with Nationwide Greetings
As the Amarnath Yatra 2026 began, the Vice President described it as a reflection of India’s timeless spiritual heritage and values of unity, harmony, and devotion.
Prime Minister Modi also conveyed his best wishes to pilgrims and emphasized the importance of discipline, safety, and responsible conduct during the journey.

PM Modi’s Five Pledges for Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims
In a two-page message to devotees, PM Modi urged participants of the Amarnath Yatra 2026 to follow five key pledges during the pilgrimage. These include maintaining cleanliness, ensuring personal safety, and strictly following security and traffic guidelines.
He also encouraged pilgrims to support the “Vocal for Local” initiative by purchasing goods and services from local businesses in Jammu and Kashmir.
Yatra Linked with Nation-Building Message
The Prime Minister highlighted that the Amarnath Yatra 2026 is not only a spiritual journey but also an opportunity to contribute to national development.
He urged devotees to embrace the idea of “Rashtra Pratham” (Nation First) and contribute towards making India a developed nation.
Modi also suggested that pilgrims plant a sapling during Raksha Bandhan as a symbolic gesture to promote environmental protection and greenery.
