Thane:
A 27-year-old housewife, Sandhya Sandeep Bere, was arrested in Maharashtra’s Shahpur area after police found that she had allegedly poisoned her three daughters- aged ,5 8, and 10.
According to reports, she mixed pesticide into a traditional Dish, Varan Bhat, and served it to her daughters on July 20.
The girls felt severely ill shortly after the meal, showing symptoms like vomiting and dizziness. They were rushed to the hospitals, two to Mumbai and one to Nashik- but tragically all three passed between July 24 and July 25. The case was initially lodged as accidental deaths.
Following the post-mortem reports, toxicology results confirmed poison ingestion, prompting police to reclassify the incident as a murder and arrest Sandhya early Sunday at 2a.m.
Authorities believe she was distressed over longstanding domestic issues, including her husband alcohol addiction. She had separated from him and was reportedly struggling to care for her daughters alone- a factor that investigators say may have driven her to this drastic act.
