New Delhi: Amid rising concerns over LPG supply during the ongoing Iran war and heightened tensions in the Middle East, the government has urged citizens not to panic while booking cooking gas cylinders. To streamline the process, India’s largest LPG provider Indian Oil Corporation has introduced new contact options for customers to book their cylinders.

Officials said the new Indane LPG cylinder booking number system has been introduced to manage the sudden surge in bookings reported across several parts of the country. Authorities confirmed that LPG supply remains sufficient and customers should only book cylinders when required.

Government Urges Consumers Not to Panic

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has appealed to consumers not to panic amid the geopolitical tensions affecting global energy markets.  Additional Secretary in the ministry, said India currently has adequate supplies of crude oil, petrol, diesel, and LPG.

She explained that authorities are also working to shift certain commercial LPG consumers to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections wherever possible. Customers who can immediately receive a PNG connection will be provided with one to reduce pressure on LPG demand.

However, officials said panic-driven bookings have increased sharply, which is why the government and oil companies introduced the new Indane LPG cylinder booking number channels.

Crackdown on LPG Black Marketing

Authorities have also launched strict enforcement measures to prevent black marketing of LPG cylinders. Oil marketing companies carried out more than 1,300 surprise inspections on March 13 to check illegal sales and stockpiling.

Several state governments are working jointly with oil companies to tackle the issue. In Uttar Pradesh, officials conducted surprise inspections at over 1,400 locations, leading to 19 FIRs being registered against those involved in black marketing.

The ministry emphasized that digital booking methods using the Indane LPG cylinder booking number or online platforms should be used to ensure transparency and avoid dealing with unauthorized sellers.

Digital Booking Encouraged

The government has advised consumers to use digital platforms and official booking numbers instead of visiting dealers physically. Officials said customers do not need to visit LPG dealerships for bookings, as the entire process can be completed via phone, WhatsApp, or IVRS services.

Authorities reiterated that LPG supply across India remains stable and urged citizens to book cylinders only when genuinely required, ensuring that the system continues to operate smoothly during the current situation.
