Chümoukedima, Nagaland: The situation in Moava village has stabilized following a wave of violence that erupted on February 13, 2026. While the atmosphere remains tense, police officials confirmed on Saturday that no fresh incidents occurred. Heavy security deployment continues to monitor the Medziphema sub-division to prevent further escalation between local groups.

The conflict began as a disagreement over land ownership. It quickly spiraled into a large-scale physical confrontation. Reports indicate that at least 48 people sustained injuries during the chaos. Among the injured were an Executive Magistrate and a security personnel who were performing official duties.

Property Damage and Arson Rock Medziphema
The violence caused significant destruction within the village. According to official reports, a mob set fire to multiple structures. These included six houses, seven shops, and the local community hall. Additionally, at least 21 vehicles were damaged or completely torched during the stone-pelting and scuffles.

Moreover, witnesses reported hearing loud explosions as over 30 LPG cylinders ignited during the fires. The Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) and the Moava Village Council have provided contrasting accounts of how the violence started. The CPO claims their leaders were visiting for a peaceful dialogue when they were met with aggression. Conversely, village authorities allege that a large mob entered their territory with the intent to cause harm.

Calls for Peace Amidst Ongoing Dialogue
Moava Village Council Chairman, Sutminlal Vaiphei, addressed the media to clarify the community’s position. He emphasized that the dispute centers on a specific plot of land rather than general development. Furthermore, he expressed hope that the issue could be resolved through mutual understanding and traditional dialogue.

Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton has appealed for maximum restraint. He urged all parties to trust the established legal and customary mechanisms. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. They have also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information on social media.
