IMPHAL — In an intensified effort to maintain regional stability, the Manipur police destroy bunkers and dismantle illegal fortifications across several volatile districts. On April 10 and 11, 2026, a series of coordinated strikes by state police and central security forces targeted hideouts in Ukhrul, Churachandpur, and Tengnoupal. These operations aimed to neutralize militant infrastructure and disrupt the growing narcotics trade fueling local instability. By Sunday morning, officials confirmed that 21 strategically placed bunkers were rendered inoperative.

The most significant action occurred in the Ukhrul district under the jurisdiction of the Litan police station. On April 11, specialized units moved into the villages of Sikibung and Mongkot Chepu. There, they successfully dismantled 14 and seven bunkers, respectively. Along with the destruction of these fortified positions, security personnel recovered 11 empty shell cases. These findings indicate that the sites had recently been active during sporadic exchanges of fire.

Narcotics Bust in Churachandpur: Two Arrested with Brown Sugar

While the hill districts saw structural crackdowns, the border regions faced a major blow to drug trafficking networks. On April 10, the Behiang police intercepted a vehicle near Hiangtan village. During the search, officers arrested two residents of Vengnuam Singngat, identified as H. Kamtunmung (50) and Paulianlal (49). The duo was allegedly transporting 45 soap cases filled with high-grade brown sugar.

In addition to the narcotics, the police seized a Maruti Gypsy used for the transport, two mobile phones, and various bags. This arrest is part of a broader “War on Drugs” campaign initiated to starve insurgent groups of their primary funding sources. Consequently, the accused are currently in custody and facing charges under the NDPS Act. Investigators are now probing potential cross-border links associated with this specific haul.
Explosives and Arms Recovered Near Moreh Tri-Junction

The momentum continued into the following day as security forces combed the sensitive tri-junction area of Maojang, Libung, Gomnom, and T Khonunjang. This region, situated near the Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district, has long been a corridor for illicit movement. The search led to the recovery of two 9mm pistols, multiple magazines, and 13 improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Due to the volatile nature of the explosives, the bomb disposal squad destroyed the IEDs on-site through controlled detonations. Furthermore, the units recovered two sets of combat uniforms, jungle boots, and a tactical backpack. These items suggest the presence of a “sleeper” encampment intended for future guerrilla-style operations. The destruction of these materials prevents a potential escalation in the high-risk border zone.

Strengthening Area Domination and Public Safety

Authorities state that these operations are essential for restoring a sense of normalcy to the state. The systematic approach where Manipur police destroy bunkers helps reduce the frequency of “hit-and-run” attacks between conflicting groups. Moreover, sustained patrolling in the newly cleared areas of Ukhrul ensures that these fortifications are not rebuilt.

The state government remains committed to curbing both insurgency and the illegal arms trade. These recent successes reflect improved intelligence-sharing between state and central agencies. As the summer months approach, security is expected to remain tight. Proactive measures like these ensure that illegal elements cannot consolidate power in the hinterlands.
