PM Modi urges youth to draw inspiration from Komaram Bheem ’s bravery and sacrifice in resisting Nizam’s rule on his birth anniversary.

Hyderabad:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi exhorted the young people of India to take inspiration from the life and legacy of Komaram Bheem, the renowned tribal independence fighter from Telangana, in the 127th episode of his monthly radio show “Mann Ki Baat.”

Prime Minister Modi praised the bravery and sacrifice of the revolutionaries, recalling how Komaram Bheem opposed the Nizam’s dictatorship in the early 1900s, when aspirations for independence were few and persecution was pervasive. Unthinkable crimes were committed against indigenous communities, the impoverished, and the disadvantaged. According to Modi, “dissent was brutally punished, lands were seized, and taxes were imposed.”

A young Komaram Bheem, who was just in his twenties, publicly confronted a Nizam official named Siddiqui who had come to seize farmers’ harvests, the Prime Minister said in a stirring story. In a daring act of defiance, Bheem killed Siddiqui and fled to Assam without being apprehended. At the period, Modi emphasized, “even speaking against the Nizam was considered a crime.”

The Prime Minister took time to reflect on Komaram Bheem’s birth anniversary on October 22, praising his strategic genius and his role in motivating tribal tribes to fight injustice. Despite just having a 40-year lifespan, he had a significant influence. According to Modi, he became a representation of courage and resistance to oppression.

The Prime Minister further emphasized that Bheem’s 1940 martyrdom at the hands of the Nizam’s army was a sacrifice that would never be forgotten. The stories of unsung warriors like Komaram Bheem are full of resiliency and patriotism, and he encouraged the young people to learn more about them.
