The Kerala Legislative Assembly swearing-in ceremony for the 16th Assembly was held on Thursday in Thiruvananthapuram, marking the formal induction of newly elected MLAs. The Kerala Legislative Assembly swearing-in ceremony began at 9 am under the supervision of Pro-tem Speaker G Sudhakaran, who administered the oath in alphabetical order.

The process of the Kerala swearing-in ceremony started with IUML MLA V E Abdul Gafoor, elected from Kalamassery, and continued until 12:30 pm, concluding with CPI(M) MLA Xavier Chitilappilly from Wadakkanchery. The orderly conduct of the Kerala Legislative Assembly swearing-in ceremony ensured all 140 members were sworn in smoothly.
Senior leaders such as Chief Minister V D Satheesan and Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan also took their oaths during the Kerala Legislative Assembly swearing-in ceremony, with Satheesan being the 105th MLA and Vijayan the 133rd to be sworn in.

A notable feature of the Kerala swearing-in ceremony was that 42 MLAs chose to “solemnly affirm” instead of taking the oath in the name of God. This group included all CPI(M) and CPI MLAs, along with leaders from Congress, RSP, RMP, and other allied parties.

Language diversity also stood out during the Kerala Legislative Assembly swearing-in ceremony, with some legislators taking oath in English, Tamil, and a mix of Kannada and Malayalam. IUML MLA A K M Ashraf used a regional language blend, while several Congress and allied leaders opted for English.

The Kerala Legislative Assembly swearing-in ceremony also saw symbolic gestures, including BJP MLA Sandeep Varier holding a copy of the Constitution and concluding with patriotic slogans like “Jai Hind” and “Jai Sita Ram.”
The House is scheduled to reconvene on Friday for the election of the Speaker. The Congress has nominated Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, while the BJP has proposed B B Gopakumar, and the LDF has not fielded a candidate.
