India condemns Pakistan at UN Security Council over terrorism, false claims on Operation Sindoor, and interference in Jammu & Kashmir.

New Delhi: India strongly criticized Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) over Islamabad’s “false” narrative regarding Operation Sindoor and its use of terrorism as a state instrument while meddling in India’s internal affairs. India’s Permanent Representative, Parvathaneni Harish, accused Pakistan of presenting “a self-serving and inaccurate account” of the May 2025 operation.

Harish highlighted that the facts are clear: Pakistan-backed terrorists were responsible for killing 26 innocent civilians in Pahalgam in April 2025. “The Security Council itself called for holding the perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors accountable. That is exactly what India did. Our actions were measured, responsible, and focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure and neutralizing terrorists,” he said.

He added that until May 9, Pakistan had threatened further attacks on India, but by May 10, the Pakistani military reached out to India seeking a cessation of hostilities. Contradicting Pakistan’s claims of success, Harish stated that evidence of the damage inflicted on multiple Pakistani air bases—including destroyed runways and burnt hangars—is already in the public domain.

On Terrorism

The Indian envoy strongly rejected Pakistan’s attempts to normalize terrorism in the region. “Terrorism can never be considered normal, as Pakistan wishes to portray. Pakistan, even as an elected UNSC member, continues to prioritize harming India and its people,” he said. Harish emphasized that India would take all necessary steps to ensure the security and safety of its citizens, and that the UNSC cannot be used by Pakistan to legitimize terrorism.

On Jammu and Kashmir

Reaffirming India’s stance on Jammu and Kashmir, Harish stated that Pakistan has no authority to interfere in India’s internal matters. “The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” he asserted.

On the Indus Waters Treaty

Addressing India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, Harish said that while India signed the agreement 65 years ago in good faith, Pakistan repeatedly violated its principles through wars and terror attacks. “Over six and a half decades, Pakistan has conducted three wars and thousands of terror attacks against India, leading to the loss of countless Indian lives. India was therefore compelled to put the treaty on hold until Pakistan irreversibly ends its support for cross-border and other forms of terrorism,” he said.

Harish also urged Pakistan to respect the rule of law, pointing to the constitutional amendments that grant lifetime immunity to Pakistan’s chief of defence forces as an example of its disregard for legal norms.
