Punjab Woman Commision summons Honey Singh and Karan Aujla over Misogynistic lyrics
The Punjab State Woman’s Commision has summoned singers YOYO Honey Singh and Karan Aujla over allegedly derogatory and Misogynistic lyrics in their songs Millionaire and MF Gabhru. the panel has instructed both artists to appear on or before 11 August and asked Punjab Police to investigate the matter.
Commision Chairperson Raj Lali Gill said the action was taken after receiving multiple complaints and reviewing the song’s content. In letters to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, the commission asked that a senior officer probe in the matter and submit a report by the same date. The panel said such lyrics can influence young listeners and harm the dignity of women.
Both tracks have generated millions of views online, sparking debate over the responsibility of the popular artists. Critics of the song say that they normalize disrespect towards woman, while supporters argue that music should not be censored and artistic freedom must be preserved
The Commision has warned if the lyrics are found questionable, it could seek public apologies or even demand a ban. . The outcome will depend on the police report and the artists’ responses when they appear before the panel.
