Court Dismisses Petition Against Jolly LLB 3
In a major relief for Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, the Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition filed against their upcoming film Jolly LLB 3. The petition challenged the song Bhai Vakeel Hai, alleging that it insulted the judiciary and demeaned the legal profession.
However, a division bench comprising Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Brij Raj Singh ruled that the allegations lacked merit. The judges stated, “We did not find anything that warrants the interference of this court. We also looked at the lyrics of the song, and we did not find anything that interferes with the genuine profession of lawyers.”
This verdict paves the way for the smooth release of the courtroom drama, which has been under scrutiny since its teaser was launched last year.
Previous Legal Challenges to the Film
The controversy around Jolly LLB 3 is not new. In 2024, a Pune-based lawyer, Wajid Khan Bidkar, had raised objections to the film’s teaser. He claimed that certain dialogues mocked lawyers and the judicial system. In particular, he opposed a scene where judges were casually referred to as “mamu.”
The Pune court subsequently issued summons to Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, and director Subhash Kapoor, asking them to appear on September 28, 2025. This hearing is still pending, even as the Allahabad HC has cleared the film of the current objection.
Despite these legal battles, the movie continues to generate excitement among fans. The franchise has a history of mixing courtroom drama with satire, which has often invited criticism from sections of the legal community while also earning wide audience appreciation.
Jolly LLB Franchise: A Proven Success
The Jolly LLB series has established itself as one of Bollywood’s most successful courtroom comedies. The first film, released in 2013, starred Arshad Warsi in the lead role and became a sleeper hit, winning the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
Its sequel, Jolly LLB 2 (2017), saw Akshay Kumar stepping into the role of the lead lawyer. The film struck a chord with audiences and went on to cross ₹200 crore worldwide, cementing its place as a blockbuster.
Now, Jolly LLB 3 brings together both Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar for the first time in the franchise. Their on-screen rivalry is being marketed as the biggest attraction of the film, raising audience expectations to new heights.
Release Date and Production Details
Produced by Star Studios 18 and directed by Subhash Kapoor, Jolly LLB 3 is slated for theatrical release on September 19, 2025. The film’s teaser, unveiled in 2024, showcased the clash of legal titans played by Akshay and Arshad, instantly sparking curiosity among fans.
Industry analysts expect the movie to perform strongly at the box office, given the popularity of its stars, the franchise’s track record, and the buzz surrounding its courtroom satire. The Allahabad HC’s dismissal of the petition has further cleared uncertainties around its release, though the Pune case remains ongoing.
What This Verdict Means for Bollywood
The High Court ruling reaffirms the importance of creative freedom in cinema, especially in genres like satire that challenge social and institutional structures. While filmmakers must exercise responsibility, courts have often leaned toward protecting artistic expression unless clear evidence of defamation or malice is presented.
For Bollywood, the verdict signals relief in navigating the thin line between entertainment and offense. For fans, it ensures that one of 2025’s most awaited films remains on track for release without major delays.
