Despite Star-Studded Cast, Ramayana Title Card Highlights Producer Namit Malhotra Over Lead Actors

Touted as India’s biggest film to date, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana boasts a staggering budget of ₹835 crore and a powerhouse ensemble featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, and Sunny Deol. With such a massive scale and a director of Tiwari’s reputation at the helm, expectations are sky-high.

Surprisingly though, the film’s title card doesn’t spotlight any of these A-list names. Instead, the honor goes to producer Namit Malhotra — a prominent figure in the global film industry but still relatively unfamiliar to many Indian viewers. While his behind-the-scenes influence has shaped several major international projects, his front-and-center placement in Ramayana’s credits has sparked curiosity and conversation among fans.

Who Is Namit Malhotra, the Man Behind Ramayana?

Namit Malhotra comes from a legacy deeply rooted in Indian cinema. He is the son of film producer Naresh Malhotra and the grandson of renowned cinematographer MN Malhotra. With a background in computer graphics, Namit began his journey in the industry by launching his first venture, Video Workshop, alongside three of his college professors. Interestingly, the editing studio started in his father’s garage and went on to work on popular TV shows like Boogie Woogie and Gaatha. It also served as the post-production hub for Channel V, marking Namit’s early influence in the world of entertainment.

In 1997, Namit Malhotra merged his editing venture with his father’s production business to form Prime Focus, offering creative tech services for TV and film. The company later stepped into movie production with The Hurricane Heist and Brahmastra Part One.

In 2014, Prime Focus joined forces with UK-based VFX studio Double Negative to form DNEG. Since then, DNEG has delivered visual effects for major Hollywood titles like Blade Runner 2049, Tenet, and both Dune films, earning seven Oscars for Best Visual Effects in the past decade.

Namit Malhotra’s Vision for Ramayana

Namit Malhotra began developing the idea for Ramayana back in 2015, though the film only went into production in 2023. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said his aim is to make India proud while captivating global audiences.

“We love films like Oppenheimer or Forrest Gump because their stories are universal. I believe Ramayana is too,” he said, calling the project a rare opportunity he hopes to deliver on.

Ramayana: Release Timeline and Cast

Ramayana will unfold in two parts, with Part 1 arriving on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 a year later. The epic stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Yash as Ravan, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The soundtrack, composed by AR Rahman and Hollywood legend Hans Zimmer, promises to elevate this mythological saga to a truly global cinematic experience.
