Crude Oil Prices Crash Amid US-Iran Peace Deal Hopes, Big Relief for India

Falling crude oil prices and easing Strait of Hormuz tensions may ensure stable fuel and LNG supply for India

by Tamanna

New Delhi: Crude oil prices witnessed a sharp decline on Monday as growing hopes of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran pushed global markets lower. International benchmark Brent crude futures fell 4.55% to $98.83 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped 4.73% to $92.03 per barrel. This marks the lowest level for both contracts since May 7.

The steep fall in crude oil prices has come as a major relief for India, which imports a significant portion of its energy requirements. Lower crude oil prices are expected to reduce pressure on fuel imports and improve overall energy stability in the country.

Strait of Hormuz Relief Brings Energy Security Boost for India

One of the biggest positives for India is the easing concerns around the Strait of Hormuz crisis. Before tensions escalated in the region, nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and LNG supplies were transported through this crucial route. If the route remains secure and fully operational, India’s oil and gas supplies are likely to continue without disruption.

Crude Oil Prices Fall as US-Iran Peace Deal Hopes Boost Market Sentiment

The decline in crude oil prices is largely linked to rising expectations of a possible peace deal between the US and Iran. Market sentiment improved after US President Donald Trump hinted that negotiations between the two countries had “largely completed discussions” on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

According to reports, the proposed agreement could help restore security in the Middle East’s most critical oil transit corridor. This development has raised hopes that global energy supply chains may stabilize further, leading to sustained softness in crude oil prices.

However, experts believe it may be too early for markets to celebrate completely. President Trump has reportedly instructed his representatives not to rush into a final agreement with Iran, as several complex issues — including disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz — still remain unresolved between both sides.

Despite the caution, the recent drop in crude oil prices is being viewed as a positive signal for India’s economy, especially in terms of fuel supply stability, reduced import costs, and easing inflationary pressure.
