Bakra Eid Holiday : In a fresh notification, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has announced that all central government administrative offices located in Delhi and New Delhi will remain closed on May 28, 2026, on the occasion of Bakra Eid, also known as Eid ul-Zuha or Bakrid.
According to the official statement, “Central government administrative offices located in Delhi/New Delhi shall remain closed on 28th May, 2026, on account of Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) (in place of 27th May, 2026).”
The revised Bakra Eid holiday notification applies to all central government administrative offices functioning in the national capital. Earlier, the Centre had listed May 27 as the Bakrid holiday in its annual holiday calendar, but the date has now been officially revised.
Bakra Eid Holiday Likely to Shut Banks, Schools and Government Offices Across India
The Bakra Eid holiday is also expected to impact banks, schools, and public institutions across several states. Most banks, including branches of State Bank of India, are likely to remain closed on May 28 to mark the festival. Educational institutions and government offices in many parts of the country are also expected to observe the Bakra Eid holiday.
However, officials clarified that some states and regions may celebrate the festival on different dates depending on local customs and the sighting of the moon. The Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar has also scheduled Bakrid holidays on varying dates in different parts of the country.

For offices located outside Delhi, the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committees in state capitals have been authorized to revise the Bakra Eid holiday date based on decisions taken by respective state governments and union territories.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government led by Rekha Gupta has issued strict guidelines to maintain law and order, hygiene, and proper waste disposal during the festival celebrations.
Delhi Government Warns of Strict Action Over Bakra Eid Rule Violations
Delhi minister Kapil Mishra warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone violating rules related to the slaughter of prohibited animals or improper disposal of animal waste during the Bakra Eid holiday period.
The Development Department of the Delhi government has also circulated detailed instructions to authorities, directing them to closely monitor illegal animal sacrifice and ensure cleanliness across public areas during the Bakrid celebrations.
The revised Bakra Eid holiday announcement is expected to help citizens, offices, and institutions make necessary arrangements ahead of the festival.
