Completion of Sacred Sarovar Cleaning in Amritsar

The major restoration project at Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthan in Amritsar achieved a major milestone following the successful completion of desilting and cleaning operations at the holy sarovar. Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O., Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, and Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal paid a special visit to inspect the completed works and review holy water filling procedures.

The religious complex, historically recognized as Ram Tirath, holds immense spiritual importance for millions of devotees worldwide. Balyogi Baba Pargat Nath, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Shrine Board, accompanied the visiting delegation alongside district administrative officials.

During their visit, dignitaries performed ceremonial prayers and released 500 colorful fish fingerlings into the replenished holy water body to restore ecological balance. Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO affirmed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s administration remains deeply committed to preserving religious heritage sites across Punjab.

Government Investment and Infrastructure Upgrades

Presiding over development projects at Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthan, state authorities allocated substantial financial resources to enhance infrastructure surrounding the historic pilgrimage complex. Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO detailed that the Punjab Government approved approximately Rs 17.72 crore for comprehensive beautification and structural upgrades across the shrine grounds.

In addition to direct site beautification, over Rs 5 crore was directed toward upgrading the localized Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to maintain high water clarity standards consistently. Construction crews repaired public bathhouses, installed modern air-conditioning units, set up water geysers, and established advanced fire safety systems throughout the pilgrimage complex.

Environmentalist and Member of Parliament Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal provided technical guidance throughout the cleaning phase, ensuring sustainable water recycling systems were integrated seamlessly into the shrine’s infrastructure.

Preparations for Upcoming Pragat Diwas Celebrations

The successful rejuvenation of Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthan comes directly ahead of massive annual religious observances marking Maharishi Valmiki Pragat Diwas. State officials confirmed that thousands of devotees from across India and overseas are scheduled to assemble at the Amritsar shrine complex.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan stated that the state government prioritized completing the kar sewa before the festive rush to allow pilgrims to perform traditional holy dips comfortably. District authorities in Amritsar established dedicated traffic management routes, medical aid posts, and drinking water facilities across access roads leading to the venue.

To enhance visitor experience, the Shrine Board appointed specialized multi-lingual guides fluent in Punjabi, Hindi, and English to explain the historical and cultural significance of the site.

Cultural Significance of the Ancient Pilgrimage Complex

As a central pillar of Punjab’s spiritual landscape, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthan holds profound historical connections to Ramayana tradition. Ancient lore identifies the site as the hermitage of Adi Kavi Maharishi Valmiki Ji and the birthplace of Luv and Kush.

The complex features a panorama museum highlighting the life and teachings of Sage Valmiki alongside an 8-foot-tall, gold-plated statue installed within the central temple shrine. Modern structural renovations preserve ancient architecture while offering modern amenities for visiting families.

Local community leaders expressed gratitude to state ministers and Sant Seechewal for completing the historical restoration drive within record time, ensuring the preservation of sacred heritage for future generations.
