New Delhi: In a welcome development for residents of the national capital, the latest Delhi Weather Update suggests that people are likely to get relief from intense heat and humidity starting Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rainfall in several parts of Delhi-NCR, while heavier showers are expected on Sunday, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature.
According to the Delhi Weather Update, cloudy conditions prevailed throughout Friday, but only isolated drizzles were recorded in some areas. The limited rainfall failed to provide significant relief from the sultry weather, and humidity levels remained high across the region.
Delhi Weather Update: Feels-Like Temperature Reaches 48°C Amid High Humidity
The Safdarjung weather station recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8°C and a minimum temperature of 28.1°C on Friday. However, due to high humidity and weak winds, the “feels like” temperature touched a scorching 48°C during the afternoon, making outdoor conditions extremely uncomfortable.
Meteorologists have predicted stronger winds over the weekend. Wind speeds may reach up to 50 kmph on Saturday and increase to nearly 60 kmph on Sunday. The expected rainfall and gusty winds are likely to improve weather conditions and reduce discomfort caused by excessive humidity.

The latest Delhi Weather Update also indicates that light rainfall may continue even after Sunday, keeping temperatures under control in the coming days. Weather experts believe the sustained rain activity will help improve overall comfort levels for residents.
Meanwhile, light drizzle was recorded at Safdarjung, Palam, Lodhi Road, and Ayanagar weather stations on Friday. Despite the arrival of monsoon conditions, the lack of widespread rainfall has prevented significant cooling across Delhi and surrounding areas.
Monsoon Arrived in Delhi on July 2
The normal date for the onset of monsoon in Delhi is June 27. This year, however, the monsoon arrived five days late and officially reached the city on July 2. The announcement was made after meteorological conditions such as increased moisture levels, easterly winds, and extensive cloud cover met the required criteria.
Experts clarified that the arrival of the monsoon does not necessarily mean heavy rainfall on the same day. The declaration is based on specific atmospheric conditions rather than the amount of rainfall received.
Delhi Air Quality Remains Moderate
Alongside the Delhi Weather Update, air quality in the capital remained in the moderate category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 107 on Friday. An AQI between 101 and 200 is classified as “Moderate,” indicating acceptable air quality for most residents.
With stronger winds and increased rainfall expected over the weekend, weather conditions are likely to improve further, offering much-needed relief from the persistent heat and humidity that have gripped Delhi-NCR over the past several days.
