Parts of Delhi witnessed light rainfall on Tuesday morning as the Delhi Weather Alert intensified following a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather department has warned of severe thunderstorms, lightning and squally winds reaching speeds of up to 100 kmph in several parts of the national capital over the next few hours.
The rain, accompanied by cloudy skies and gusty winds, provided temporary relief from the prevailing heat. However, officials have advised residents to remain cautious as weather conditions are expected to change rapidly throughout the day.
Delhi Weather Alert: IMD Issues Red Alert for Several Districts
According to the latest Delhi Weather Alert issued by the IMD at 9:21 AM, severe thunderstorms along with light to moderate rainfall are very likely in Central Delhi, New Delhi, West Delhi, South West Delhi and North Delhi.

Wind speeds in these areas may range between 80 and 100 kmph, increasing the risk of falling trees, traffic disruptions and damage to weak structures.
The weather department has also predicted moderate thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 60-80 kmph in East Delhi, Shahdara, North East Delhi and South Delhi.
Residents Advised to Stay Indoors
As part of the Delhi Weather Alert, the IMD has urged residents to stay indoors during thunderstorm activity and avoid unnecessary travel. People have been advised not to take shelter under trees or near unstable structures due to the possibility of strong winds.
The department also warned citizens to stay away from electric poles, open fields and water bodies because of the increased risk of lightning strikes.
Aftermath of Powerful Dust Storm
The latest Delhi Weather Alert comes just a day after a powerful dust storm swept across Delhi-NCR, affecting normal life and significantly reducing visibility in several areas.
According to weather officials, Palam recorded wind speeds of up to 92 kmph during Monday’s storm. The sudden weather activity caused disruptions to traffic and affected daily commuters across the region.

The IMD’s nowcast warning remains valid until 12:21 PM, with officials cautioning that weather conditions may intensify further in some parts of the city. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation amid concerns over waterlogging, fallen trees and transportation disruptions.
