Punjab Legislative Assembly  11th Special Session ends as Governor issues prorogation order; pending matters to continue in next session.

Chandigarh : The Punjab Legislative Assembly, which had earlier been adjourned sine-die at the end of its last sitting on 30th December 2025, has now been formally prorogued. The decision came through an official order issued by the Governor of Punjab on 28th January 2026.

Prorogation is a formal procedure by which a legislative assembly is temporarily discontinued, marking the end of a session without dissolving the assembly. This move allows the state government to plan for the next session, set the legislative agenda, and address policy priorities for the upcoming months.

The prorogation of the Assembly signifies that all pending legislative business from the previous session will be carried forward to the next sitting, as per the rules of parliamentary procedure.

Officials said that the next session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly will be convened in accordance with constitutional provisions, where important bills, policies, and discussions on state governance and development priorities are expected to resume.

The Punjab government, led by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, continues to focus on its governance agenda, with the prorogation providing an opportunity to review legislative work, public welfare initiatives, and policy planning.
