Haryana celebrates 77th Republic Day 2026 at Panchkula; Governor Ghosh hoists flag, honors freedom fighters, and highlights state welfare initiatives.
Panchkula, Haryana: On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh addressed a grand function at the Parade Ground, Sector-5, Panchkula, emphasizing India’s post-Independence achievements and Haryana’s contributions to the nation’s progress. The Governor extended Republic Day greetings to the people of the state and paid homage to freedom fighters and martyrs whose sacrifices made the day possible. Haryana’s First Lady Smt. Mitra Ghosh was also present at the event.
Prof. Ghosh unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade, and took the salute during the march-past, highlighting the significance of India becoming the world’s largest democratic republic and honoring the chief architect of the Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, along with the members of the Constituent Assembly. He paid tribute to leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Lala Lajpat Rai, Sardar Patel, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad for their immense contributions to India’s freedom struggle.
The Governor spoke of India’s rapid progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing successful missions such as Chandrayaan, Suryayaan, and Mangalyaan. He also expressed pride in the completion of the Freedom Struggle Memorial at Ambala, built to honor Haryana’s role in India’s independence.
Highlighting Haryana’s development, Prof. Ghosh noted that the state has set benchmarks in education, health, and sports, and lauded the youth’s patriotic spirit, stating that every tenth soldier in the Indian Army comes from Haryana. He detailed welfare measures for soldiers and their families, including a separate Department of Sainik & Ardh Sainik Welfare, enhanced assistance of ₹1 crore for martyrs’ families, 10% reservation for Agniveers, and jobs for dependents of 1984 riot victims.
Under the principles of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Haryana Ek–Haryanvi Ek, the Governor said the state government has promoted direct interaction between citizens and government through e-governance, ensuring transparent and timely delivery of services like pensions, BPL and Chirayu cards, Shagun payments, and farmers’ crop payments directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
On healthcare, Prof. Ghosh highlighted initiatives including free dialysis in district hospitals, Ayushman Bharat coverage up to ₹10 lakh for citizens above 70 years, and the HAPPY scheme, which provides free travel up to 1,000 km for poor families on Haryana Roadways buses. Housing schemes under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and state initiatives have provided nearly one lakh houses, with plots allotted to the poor across urban and rural areas.

The Governor also highlighted agriculture and industrial initiatives, such as Meri Fasal Mera Byora, MSP procurement, financial support for farmers, indigenous cow rearing, natural farming, irrigation development, and Ease of Doing Business reforms for industrial growth. Welfare schemes for women, youth, and marginalized groups, along with the development of smart cities in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Panchkula, were also emphasized.
Prof. Ghosh called upon all citizens to pledge toward the prosperity and development of the nation, while honoring cultural traditions and moral values. During the event, he also honored dependents of freedom fighters and widows of soldiers who attained martyrdom, and paid tribute at the Shaheed Memorial, Sector-12.

The Governor presented trophies to winners, commendation certificates to officers, employees, students, sportspersons, and social workers, and appreciated cultural performances by school children. He also announced a one-day holiday in Panchkula schools on January 27 and leave with pay for participating police personnel and officers.
