The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially spoken out about star pacer Mustafizur Rahman  forced departure from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming IPL 2026 season amid the growing sporting and diplomatic divide between India and Bangladesh. “Forced” Exit and BCB’s Response

Citing “recent regional developments” and safety concerns, the BCCI gave KKR a direct order to end Mustafizur’s ₹9.20 crore contract, sparking the uproar. Mustafizur is now the only Bangladeshi player in the league without a team as a result of this departure.

BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul vehemently refuted reports that BCCI had proposed a “reinstatement” plan to defuse tensions in an official statement on January 9, 2026.Reports of an IPL comeback are untrue. Bulbul basically put an end to any prospects of a compromise when he said, “We have had no such discussions with BCCI.”

Mustafizur’s Transfer to the PSL

Mustafizur has formally moved on from the IPL snub, refusing to be sidelined.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) announced on January 7 that “The Fizz” had agreed to a deal for the forthcoming PSL 11 season. The tagline used by the league to greet him was “Batters better shake carefully, it’s going to Fizz in the #NewEra.”

The Bangladeshi government and the BCB have taken a series of retaliatory actions in response to the “Mustafizur Row”:

IPL Broadcast Ban: In protest of the “humiliation” of their star player, the interim administration of Bangladesh has decided to permanently prohibit the IPL 2026 broadcast within the nation.

BCB Internal Friction

Although the BCB’s official position is still aggressive, insiders say the board is a “divided house.”

Since the majority of the board’s revenue is linked to ICC payouts, which are greatly impacted by the Indian market, several directors worry that switching completely to PSL and skipping Indian events may result in financial ruin.
