Jhajjar-Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary in Punjab renamed Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Wildlife Refuge, honouring the Ninth Sikh Guru and promoting conservation.

In a historic move, the Standing Committee of the Punjab State Board for Wildlife approved the name of the Jhajjar-Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary in Rupnagar District after the Ninth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. The refuge would now be called as Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Wildlife refuge.

The conference was presided over by Forests and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, who stated that the 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji was marked with religious zeal and piety on November 25th last year at Sri Anandpur Sahib. Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains had made a recommendation for renaming the Jhajjar-Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary after Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

The animal sanctuary is stretched across three villages, Jhajjar, Bachauli, and Lamlehri, and covers an area of 289 acres. Of these, 218 acres are in Jhajjar, 55 acres in Bachauli, and the remainder in Lamlehri. Furthermore, in order to safeguard animals, the entire 289-acre region was declared the Jhajjar-Bachauli animals Sanctuary under Section 18 (1) of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.

Priyank Bharti, Secretary Forests and Wildlife Preservation Department, Dharminder Sharma, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force), Basanta Raj Kumar, Chief Wildlife Warden, and Satinder Sagar, CCF (Wildlife), were among those in attendance.
