One UI 8.5 Beta 2 restores Single Take and Dual Rec modes. Learn how Samsung’s Camera Assistant brings back favorite features for Galaxy users.

While doing all of things, it subtly reverses a camera modification that longtime Galaxy users found difficult to accept. The functionalities that were removed in the previous beta build have abruptly returned to the launcher in One UI 8.5 Beta 2. Photo enthusiasts who depend on Samsung’s more ostentatious camera modes were rather incensed when they were removed earlier this month.

Initially, there was a UI 8.5 beta that concentrated on stability improvements and minor UI tweaks. However, in the process, Samsung removed Single Take and Dual Rec from the default Camera app without providing any justification. This change suggested that the business might be streamlining the camera experience at the expense of more sophisticated features.

However, according to SamMobile, One UI 8.5 Beta 2 has brought back both functionalities, albeit with a small caveat. With Samsung’s Camera Assistant app, Single Take and Dual Rec can now be reactivated rather than simply appearing on the Camera app by default.

The Galaxy Store offers Camera Assistant. The “Additional modes” portion of the software contains buttons for Single Take and Dual Rec. Both options will reappear in the main Camera app as soon as you turn it off, giving people who were missing it this feature back.

This approach suggests that Samsung is attempting to keep the default camera interface as simple as possible for casual users while yet offering additional modes to those who actively seek them out.

What are the functions of Dual Rec and Single Take?

When you’re too lazy to fiddle with your settings, use Single Take. The phone stores those photos and a number of brief video clips in different styles with a tap and a fast camera sweep so that its AI may select the best parts later.

Conversely, Dual Rec allows for simultaneous recording from two cameras, often the front and rear. It works well for vlog-style shots, reactions, or information that requires concentration and context.

Samsung appears to be reclassifying these items as accessories rather than essential camera features by transferring them to Camera Assistant.
A timeline for the introduction of UI 8.5 and devices that qualify

According to recent reports, the public release of One UI 8.5 is expected to coincide with the Galaxy S26 series, which is supposedly slated for sale in late February or early March. According to reports, Samsung would then gradually roll out the update to its older devices between March and June of 2026.

Devices that qualify are:

• Galaxy S Series: S21 FE, S25, S24, S23, S22 series, and Galaxy S26 (pre-installed).
• The Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Fold 6, Z Fold 5, Z Fold 4, and Z Flip 4 series are foldable devices.
• The Galaxy A73, A56, A55, A54, A36, A35, A34, A26, A25, A24, A16, A15, and A06 are among the models in the Galaxy A series.
• Galaxy M56, M55, M54, M36, M35, M34, F56, M55, F54, F36, and F34 are the Galaxy M and F series.
• The Galaxy Tab S11, S10, S9, and S8 series, which includes the Tab S6 Lite (2024) and Tab A9/A9+

For the time being, those who were concerned that Samsung was beginning to phase out some of its most innovative camera products should feel more at ease with the return of Single Take and Dual Rec. They are still available, but they remain hidden for the select few who truly want to use them.
