Punjab Police dismantle Pakistan-backed arms smuggling network; 6 arrested, including a juvenile, and 6 pistols seized in Amritsar.

Amid the continued efforts to establish Punjab as a safe and secure state in accordance with the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Amritsar Commissionerate, Punjab Police has dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling network operated from Pakistan. Six operatives, including one juvenile, were apprehended, and six advanced pistols were recovered from their possession, stated Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.

Those apprehended have been identified as Gurbir Singh, also known as Sonu, aged 28, a resident of village Kotli Vasava Singh in Tarn Taran; Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopa, aged 32; Gorka Singh, alias Gora; and Rajwinder Singh, alias Raju—three individuals from Khem Karan in Tarn Taran; Jaspal Singh, alias Jass, aged 24, a resident of Bachiwind in Amritsar; and a 16-year-old juvenile based in Sultanpur Lodhi. The recovered firearms comprise five pistols chambered in .30 caliber and one PX5 pistol in 9mm caliber.

DGP stated that the initial investigation has indicated that the accused individuals maintained direct contact with a facilitator based in Pakistan via social media platforms, who provided coordinates for the retrieval and subsequent transfer of weapon consignments. He stated that the organized gang had been supplying these weapon consignments to criminals operating in the Majha and Doaba regions for the purpose of carrying out illicit activities. The DGP stated that additional investigations are underway to determine the network’s backward and forward linkages and to identify the recipients and financial channels involved in this case.

Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that the initial breakthrough occurred when a police squad, conducting an intelligence-led operation, apprehended suspects Gurbir alias Sonu and Gurpreet alias Gopa, and recovered two .30 bore pistols. Their interrogation revealed the entire network, he stated, and further investigations resulted in the apprehension of their associates Gorka, also known as Gora, possessing a .30 caliber pistol; Jaspal, also known as Jass, with a .30 caliber pistol; and Rajwinder, also known as Raju, armed with a 9mm PX5 pistol. A adolescent associate was also apprehended in possession of a .30 caliber pistol, he further added.

The CP stated that the individuals in custody, Gorka alias Gora and Rajwinder alias Raju, have prior criminal records, including cases under the NDPS Act and accusations related to rape and the POCSO Act. Two accomplices from Kapurthala district have been identified as recipients of illicit weapons, he stated, and he further mentioned that raids are underway to apprehend them. In this regard, FIR No. 260 dated 30-11-2025 has been registered under sections 25(6), 7, and 8 of the Arms Act at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar.
