CM Bhajan Lal Sharma will lay the foundation for the ₹200 crore Ferozepur feeder reconstruction, boosting Gangnahar’s water supply and irrigation for farmers.
On December 5, CM Bhajan Lal Sharma will travel to Sri Ganganagar. During this time, the Chief Minister will lay the cornerstone for the Ferozepur feeder’s reconstruction. The project is regarded as a significant step in fortifying Gangnahar’s canal system. According to the administration, this will guarantee Gangnahar receives a sufficient amount of water throughout the year and give farmers more access to irrigation during the rabi and kharif seasons.
A sum of Rs 200 crore was set aside.
The stakes of Rajasthan and Punjab have been set at Rs 268.50 crore and Rs 379.12 crore, respectively. In the 2024–2025 budget announcement, Chief Minister Sharma allocated Rs 200 crore for this project. The DPR has been approved by the Central Water Commission.
Enhanced ability to produce crops
Reconstruction of two head regulators, construction of a new head regulator, reconstruction of a cross regulator, reconstruction of nineteen VRBs and DRBs, reconstruction of three railway crossing bridges, and CC lining work from zero to 168.230 are all included in the plan. The surplus water from the Harike barrage will be sent to Gangnahar via the Ferozepur feeder following rebuilding. This would enhance the 3.14 lakh hectare area’s irrigation conditions and boost farmers’ ability to produce more crops.

The foundation stone of Gangnahar was set by the late Maharaja Ganga Singh on December 5, 1925. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is laying the cornerstone for the repair of the Ferozepur feeder in 2025, the year that Gangnahar celebrates its 100th anniversary. The feeder’s ability to draw water will be greatly increased by this operation, and the state’s farmers will immediately profit from the canal system’s strengthening.
