Haryana Health Secretary orders stricter raids on illegal MTP and PNDT cases, aiming to improve the state’s female sex ratio under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.

All Civil Surgeons in the state have been instructed by Sh. Rippudaman Singh Dhillon, Secretary of the Haryana Health Department and Mission Director of the National Health Mission, Haryana, to conduct more raids in cases of illegal Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) and Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) violations and to take severe action against the offenders.

Today’s Special Task Force meeting, which was organized to keep an eye on the state’s sex ratio, was chaired by Sh. Rippudaman Singh Dhillon. This time, the sex ratio of females in the state has reached 915, as was reported during the conference. Senior executives, including Dr. Virender Yadav and Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Director General, Health Services, attended the conference.

Sh. Rippudaman Singh Dhillon instructed the police department officers, civil surgeons, and nodal officers of districts with a low sex ratio to closely monitor incidents of unlawful MTP and PNDT within their respective jurisdictions. He stressed that harsh measures must be taken against anyone found guilty.

In order to prevent the guilty from being exonerated for lack of proof, he added, all factors should be taken into account when filing FIRs. The matter must be appealed to the higher court, he added, especially situations when it seems the lower court acquitted the accused because of insufficient representation. He asked for information on court cases over the last three years in order to assess whether or not challans are being submitted on time.

In response to Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi’s demand for “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,” the state administration is dedicated to eradicating female foeticide entirely in order to attain a balanced sex ratio, according to Sh. Rippudaman Singh Dhillon. To reach the goal sex ratio, he ordered concerned personnel to step up their efforts in districts where no raids for checking illicit MTP and PNDT cases had been carried out in the previous four to five months.

He told officers to raise awareness in frontline worker communities and make sure that their children are properly registered after expressing dissatisfaction over the incorrect birth registration of babies during special camps held in slum regions of several districts.
