Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI Jaswinder Singh in Jalandhar for demanding Rs 5 lakh bribe, reflecting CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s anti-corruption drive.

In accordance with the zero tolerance policy implemented by the Punjab administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has detained ASI Jaswinder Singh, who was employed at the Bhogpur police station in the district of Jalandhar, for requesting a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh.

An official spokesperson for the state VB made the announcement here today, stating that the arrest was made in response to a complaint submitted on the Chief Minister’s Anti Corruption Action Line online by a resident of Maqsudan, Jalandhar city.

The complainant was named as an accused in a case filed at police station Bhogpur, it was discovered during the investigation. As the case’s investigating officer, ASI Jaswinder Singh demanded a bribe of Rs. 5,00,000 in the name of SHO Rajesh Kumar for failing to arrest the complainant, fail to show that the pistol had been recovered, and fail to request additional police remand of the already-arrested accused Surjit Singh. He stated that the complainant had videotaped the exchange during which the accused ASI demanded a Rs. 5 lakh bribe.

He added that at the complainant’s request, the bribe demand was lowered to Rs. 2,00,000/-. No concrete proof of a bribe demand by SHO Rajesh Kumar has surfaced during the investigation. During additional research, the SHO’s role will be investigated.

According to the spokesperson, VB Police Station Jalandhar range has filed a case against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act. This matter was being investigated further.
