Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann starts flood relief payments to 30,000+ families, providing Rs 1.2 lakh per damaged home and Rs 20,000 per acre crop loss.
Bhagwant Singh Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, started the process of paying compensation to over 30,000 families whose homes were damaged in the recent floods on Wednesday, giving those impacted by the flooding a sense of relief.
Speaking to the crowd, the chief minister said that Punjab’s people had endured unimaginable suffering due to the floods, and that the suffering endured by the impacted families was indescribable. Bhagwant Singh Mann claimed to have seen firsthand the suffering of the locals on his trips to the flood-affected districts. He claimed that the state government had given the flood victims assurances that they were solidly supporting each and every impacted family during this difficult time.
The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to volunteers from Punjab and other states, as well as social and religious groups, for their unselfish assistance to people during the disaster. He praised Punjabis’ unwavering spirit and said the state had once again shown that it could overcome hardship like a phoenix. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, it is the responsibility of any sensitive government to support the people in times of need, and his administration will do everything in its power to assist the houses affected by the flood.

According to the Chief Minister, the state government has already started paying farmers enhanced compensation for crop losses during the floods at a rate of Rs 20,000 per acre. This is the largest amount of compensation offered by any government in the nation. He added that impacted households are receiving Rs 1.20 lakh for each completely damaged home as part of the government’s extensive rehabilitation plan for home damage. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, 8,056 of the approximately 30,000 homes in Punjab that were reported destroyed during the floods are located in the Gurdaspur area alone.
According to the Chief Minister, impacted families would receive compensation totaling Rs 377 crore today, enabling them to reconstruct their homes in a dignified manner. He went on to say that each qualifying household has already received the first installment of Rs 70,000 from the state government for house reconstruction, with the remaining funds being distributed in two more installments to ensure seamless work. Bhagwant Singh Mann declared that MGNREGA had been given credit for repairing the destroyed dwellings, giving recipients 90 days of paid work to help them build their own homes. This was done to further aid in the restoration process.
In order to provide afflicted families with both cash help and livelihood support, the Chief Minister explained that these 90 days of employment are in addition to the Rs 1.20 lakh compensation for each completely damaged house. He said that Punjab has once again fulfilled its role as the nation’s food bowl by contributing approximately 150 lakh tonnes of paddy to the national pool, despite the tremendous devastation inflicted by the floods. Bhagwant Singh Mann reiterated his firm demand that the Union government promptly provide the Rs 1,600 crore relief package that had already been made public, pointing out that the state had lost around Rs 13,500 crore as a result of the floods.
The Chief Minister criticized the government for treating Punjab like a stepmother and claimed that refusing to provide the promised aid amounted to yet another “jumla” with the populace. He claimed that the center’s anti-Punjab sentiment was a reflection of its last-ditch efforts to elevate Punjab University and Chandigarh. Bhagwant Singh Mann listed his government’s major pro-people initiatives, stating that the state had closed over 17 toll plazas, saving commuters in Punjab close to Rs 65 lakh every day.

For the first time in about 40 years, the Chief Minister continued, canal water has reached numerous fields at the state’s southernmost point. He further claimed that over 58,000 government positions have been awarded to young people solely on the basis of their qualifications and without any corruption. Bhagwant Singh Mann added that as a result of the state’s diligent efforts, farmers in the state are now receiving a consistent, uninterrupted electricity supply for agricultural operations.
The Chief Minister stated that his government has put a strong emphasis on improving school infrastructure because it firmly believes that education is the true cure-all for all social and economic problems. He said that the greater emphasis on high-quality education in government institutions is reflected in the growing number of Punjabi students passing prominent exams like IIT and JEE. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, the future of the younger generation could only be secured by empowerment, work, and education.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government has broken the backbone of narcotics and that tough measures have been taken against drug dealers, who are now subject to the full force of the law. He stated that the administration was dedicated to eradicating the drug problem in Punjab and making sure that young people were directed into learning, sports, and positive pursuits. Bhagwant Singh Mann announced a significant improvement to the sports infrastructure, stating that 194 contemporary sports facilities would be built throughout the Gurdaspur district and that 23 model sports facilities would be built exclusively in the Dera Baba Nanak area.
According to the Chief Minister, these cutting-edge playgrounds will give aspiring athletes access to top-notch facilities and support the development of sports culture at the local level. He announced the opening of a new Government College for Girls at Dera Baba Nanak, marking a major advancement for women’s empowerment and access to higher education. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, the college’s classes will start in the upcoming academic year, and all required faculty and infrastructural arrangements would be made in plenty of time.
According to the Chief Minister, girls from Dera Baba Nanak and the surrounding areas will be able to pursue higher education nearby in a secure and supportive setting thanks to the new institution. Additionally, he declared that the electricity system and the current grain market (mandi), which were situated in the town’s highly populated areas, would be moved to more appropriate locations. Bhagwant Singh Mann encouraged devotees to flock to Anandpur Sahib during the ongoing celebrations of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib’s 350th martyrdom anniversary, inviting them to participate in a momentous spiritual experience.
According to the Chief Minister, Amritsar (the walled city surrounding Sri Harmandir Sahib), Sri Anandpur Sahib, and Talwandi Sabo were named “holy cities” in a historic ruling, and extraordinary efforts were taken to protect their heritage and holiness. He claimed that the absence of key Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from the martyrdom day celebrations at Anandpur Sahib revealed their insensitivity to Punjab’s rich spiritual and martyred heritage. The Shiromani Akali Dal was also sharply criticized by Bhagwant Singh Mann, who said that the party’s leadership was pursuing politics with a limited family-centric agenda and that they had even put forward a cousin of a suspected gangster in the Tarn Taran by-election.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s dedication to public welfare, clean and transparent politics, and the rule of law, saying that Punjabis were well aware of the outdated political strategies used by individuals who had previously embezzled money and misled the state. Nonetheless, he claimed that the state’s citizens are now steadfast in their support of laws that guarantee progress, fairness, and respect for all facets of society. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Akali Dal has no genuine public program and its goal is centered around four main points: “Mera Putt (Son), Mera Bhatija (Nephew), Mera Salla, Mera Jijja (Brother-in-laws).”
According to the Chief Minister, the brother-in-law is currently incarcerated for their transgressions, while the nephew has joined another party. He went on to say that in the Tarn Taran by-election, the party even provided a ticket to a gangster’s relative, who was severely disapproved of by the state’s wise people. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, amid the Akalis’ and BJP’s misrule, the drug problem has grown.
