Rajasthan may announce a major IAS reshuffle soon as CM Bhajanlal Sharma and CS V. Srinivas review long-pending senior transfers and overloaded departments.

Jaipur: After a pivotal meeting between Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and recently appointed Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, a significant administrative reorganization in Rajasthan seems likely. Discussions on the long-pending transfer of senior IAS officers have become more heated in bureaucratic circles as a result of yesterday’s meeting.

On November 17, Mr. Srinivas, an IAS officer from the 1989 batch, formally assumed the position of Chief Secretary. Expectations for a reorganized administrative structure have now increased, particularly in light of the fact that a number of crucial posts are still unclear.

No Senior-Level Transfers for Five Months

A major reshuffle was announced on June 22 when the state government published a transfer list of 62 IAS officers. But for almost five months, transfers at the senior level—Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Principal Secretary, and Secretary—have not moved forward. Several departments have had operating difficulties as a result of this delay.

More than 100 Senior Officials with Extra Duties

Over the previous 10 months, the administrative apparatus has been overworked. Currently, up to 100 senior officers from different services are carrying out extra duties:

There are 51 IAS officers, 5 IPS officers, 5 IFS officers, and 38 RAS officers.

Many of these officers have been managing three or four departments at once, which has slowed the delivery of public services and affected departmental efficiency.

Coordination must be improved, and public work must be expedited.

According to sources, eliminating extra costs is now a major priority in order to enhance communication between the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and the Chief Secretary’s Office (CSO). It is anticipated that streamlining duties will improve governance responsiveness and hasten the disposal of outstanding files.

A new IAS transfer list is anticipated shortly.

A new IAS transfer list could be made public within a week, according to senior authorities. Senior officers whose assignments have been considered for months are probably on the list.

Notably, prior this year, a thorough transfer list containing 48 IAS officers was already created. The list was supposed to be made public in July, but internal conflicts and pressure from factions kept it from happening. Senior reshuffles remained unsettled, with only junior-level placements being cleared.

As CS prepares his new team, bureaucracy is on guard.

According to sources, a thorough reorganization is unavoidable as the incoming Chief Secretary is currently aggressively examining the organizational structure. As Mr. Srinivas assembles his core team in consultation with the Chief Minister, departments currently headed by senior IAS officers may see significant changes.
