The annual Khichdi Mela at Gorakhnath Temple, Gorakhpur, will start on January 14, 2026. District administration ensures cleanliness, security, medical facilities, and smooth traffic for devotees.

The famous Khichdi Mela, which is hosted yearly at the Gorakhnath Temple, has already started extensive preparations by the local administration. At the Vikas Bhawan auditorium on Wednesday, District Magistrate (DM) Deepak Meena met with representatives from every department and gave the order that all preparations be finished by December 15, 2025.

A “symbol of Gorakhpur’s identity and faith,” the DM emphasized, the Gorakhnath Mela draws hundreds of thousands of devotees from all over the nation and overseas to present Baba Gorakhnath with khichdi. He said that ensuring that no devotee has any discomfort is the administration’s top concern and that any department’s carelessness will not be accepted.

The mela is expected to start on January 14, 2026, and last for a month.

Essential Guidelines and Departmental Duties

The DM gave distinct directives to different departments to be fulfilled in a timely and coordinated fashion:

1. Parking and traffic

More Parking: The DM issued an order to expand the number of parking spaces in anticipation of a higher congregation this year.

The implementation of a circular route system will be carried out in cooperation with the municipal corporation and traffic police in order to guarantee efficient traffic flow and avoid congestion.

Alternative routes were to be announced beforehand by the CO Traffic, the local corporation, and the traffic police.

2. Water and Sanitation Provision

Cleaning: As directed by Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Singh Sogarwal, special teams should be sent out every day to clean the trenching ground and make sure that waste is regularly collected. The temple’s grounds and the roads around it must be kept immaculate.

Toilets: More public restrooms should be available.

Drinking Water: A sufficient number of water tanks, handpumps, and temporary water stalls were to be installed by the municipal corporation and the Jal Kal department. Every pipeline needs to have its leaks checked and fixed.

3. Safety & Health

CMO Rajesh Jha was directed to set up primary health centers and medical camps on the mela grounds and in the neighborhood to provide emergency medical care.

Medical Staff: There must be teams of physicians on hand in addition to necessary medications.

Prevention of Disease: To avoid dengue and other diseases spread by mosquitoes, fogging and anti-larval spraying must be done on schedule.

4. Protection and Monitoring

Police Deployment: SSP Raj Karan Nayyar promised that there would be a sufficient number of officers on duty.

The security of female devotees will be ensured by a special deployment of female police officers.

CCTV Monitoring: CCTV cameras will be positioned on important roads, at parking lots, and on the temple grounds. From a special control room, these will be observed.

ADM City Anjani Kumar Singh gave a progress update during the meeting, indicating that preparations are underway for temporary energy connections, food inspection teams, and temporary stalls.

DM. The Gorakhnath Mela is a “symbol of Gorakhpur’s cultural and social unity,” in addition to being a center of religious faith, Deepak Meena said in closing. For the sake of providing devotees with a hygienic, secure, and peaceful environment, he directed all departments to uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, security, and service.
