Punjab Police seize high-tech weapons and ammunition in Ghonewal, stopping a cross-border smuggling module linked to Pakistan, under CM Bhagwant Mann.

Amritsar Rural Police has broken up a Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module with ties to Pakistan and found a cache of high-tech weapons and a lot of ammunition in the village of Ghonewal, near the Ravi River and close to the Indo-Pak border. This is a big step forward in the ongoing effort to make Punjab a safe and secure state, as directed by CM Bhagwant Mann.

There are two AK-series assault rifles, eight magazines, one.30 bore pistol, two magazines, and 50 live cartridges of.30 bore and 245 live cartridges of 7.62 mm.

According to DGP, the quick and proactive action taken by the Punjab Police has stopped a big incident, especially since there have been reports of more activity by terrorists supported by Pakistan and rivalry amongst gangs in border areas. The DGP indicated that more research is being done to find out the whole network, including its backward and forward links.

DIG Border Range Sandeep Goel said that police teams under the overall supervision of SSP Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh have started a combing operation in the village of Ghonewal after receiving reliable information about the flow of sophisticated weapons across the border. He stated that during the search, they found a bag with advanced weapons and ammo along the Ravi River, which is next to the border between India and Pakistan.

SSP Maninder Singh added that a full inquiry is going on to find out where the weapons and ammo came from and where they were going. He also said that further recoveries and arrests are possible in the next few days. FIR No. 174, dated 04/11/2025, has been filed at Police Station Ramdas under section 25(8) of the Arms Act and section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
