Punjab Minister Harbhajan Singh reviews 10,778 km rural road repair project, urging faster execution and strict quality oversight under CM Mann’s initiative.
Harbhajan Singh ETO, the Punjab Public Works Minister, conducted a thorough evaluation of the state’s rural link roads’ current special repair projects today. The Punjab government has started a massive project to strengthen and upgrade 10,778 kilometers of roads under a special repair program, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The continuing work concerns connecting roads that are slated for special repair in 2022–2023; 2023–24; 2024–25; and 2025–26, authorities informed the Minister during the meeting. The program encompasses the Public Works Department’s connecting roads that are under the purview of the 81 Market Committees. The Punjab Mandi Board has granted the required administrative approvals, and a transparent tendering process has been used to assign the task.
The Cabinet Minister also asked for a thorough status report on the work’s execution and instructed staff to speed up the allocation process even more.
ETO emphasized the necessity of rigorous oversight of all projects carried out under the initiatives of the Punjab Government. Additionally, he praised the departmental Vigilance Committee officials who oversaw the immediate correction of minor flaws discovered during a recent inspection of around 2.5 km of road under the Nabha Market Committee. The Minister praised the proactive effort and directed that future field inspections of this kind be conducted. He made it plain that there would be no tolerance for sacrificing the caliber of the work.
