Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann announces large police recruitment drive, specialized NDPS training for officers, and enhanced measures against drug crimes.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that in order to effectively maintain law and order in the state, the number of Punjab Police personnel will for the first time exceed one lakh, as the state government has launched a large recruitment drive.
Addressing the crowd at the commencement of a six-day Certified Investigator Course for Punjab Police investigation officers, the Chief Minister stated that the Punjab Police force had 80,000 members in 2000 and is still about the same size now. He stated that this is despite the fact that the challenges and problems encountered by the Punjab Police have grown exponentially, and he lamented that none of the preceding governments had ever bothered with this issue. However, Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that this figure will be increased shortly because the state government is already conducting large recruitment campaigns in the state, adding that the number will soon reach one lakh.
The Chief Minister stated that a new and substantial program is being launched today, and a total of 730 investigating officers will attend this six-day training workshop. He stated that precise information on taking strict action against drug traffickers and smugglers will be shared under the NDPS Act. Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized the importance of training police officers to deal with criminals that use new and innovative strategies.
The Chief Minister stated that in the past, traffickers were captured, but they frequently avoided punishment by using legal loopholes. Similarly, he stated that there used to be a lot of political intervention that assisted traffickers get released, but that this has now stopped. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the state government works closely with the Central Government, and that with the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to replace the IPC, various legal procedures have altered, making this training even more vital.
The Chief Minister stated that the preservation of evidence and maintaining current with the growing legal environment are now key obligations of officers, and that they must be trained with emerging procedures. He stated that, while investigative officers fulfill their responsibilities with integrity, the accused are occasionally able to avoid conviction by manipulating legal loopholes, and the police are held accountable. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the police have been given a free hand to act against criminals and lawbreakers, and that no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
The Chief Minister stated that personnel who perform extremely well will be recognized on important occasions such as Republic Day and Independence Day. He reiterated the state government’s resolute commitment to eradicating the drug plague, claiming that Yudh Nasheyan Virduh has already destroyed the backbone of this menace. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the war against drugs demands a large public movement in which civilians must work alongside police officers.
According to the Chief Minister, the state administration has strengthened Punjab’s police infrastructure since taking office. He stated that, because drones are being used to smuggle drugs across the border, an advanced anti-drone system has been implemented. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that it is critical to involve adolescents in work, sports, and other constructive activities as part of our drug fight, for which coordinated efforts are underway.
The Chief Minister stated that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop, but people who remain engaged in useful work do not fall into bad company. He stated that the Cabinet passed a new law today to ensure stringent control of private de-addiction institutions and avoid the misuse of medications used in drug recovery. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the investigating officers who receive this training will obtain significant new experiences, as this new program was begun today.
The Chief Minister stated that this course will give supervisory and investigative officers with professional knowledge in dealing with drug-related crimes under the NDPS Act, ensuring that drug traffickers do not escape the reach of the law. He stated that the training will familiarize police officers with the necessary processes, legal considerations, and technological intricacies for conducting effective drug-related investigations. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that this training will be provided to 27 batches of police personnel at the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law.

The Chief Minister stated that these cops will receive specialized training in case preparation and court prosecution of drug traffickers to guarantee that offenders are properly prosecuted. He stated that during the training, cops will be taught to recognize behavioral changes in individuals afflicted by drug misuse, comprehend the thinking of drug traffickers, and investigate the numerous facets of crimes related to substance abuse. Bhagwant Singh Mann envisioned that this training would provide cops with enhanced professional abilities, allowing them to gain convictions for offenders involved in narcotics crimes.
