Punjab Police launches “Cyber Jago” to educate students on online safety, cyber hygiene, and safe digital practices across 3,968 government schools.
In an important step to protect children from growing online threats and ensure their digital well-being, Punjab Police’s State Cyber Crime Division established “Cyber Jago” , a flagship statewide campaign to raise awareness about Internet safety and safe online use among schoolchildren.
Gurpreet Deo, Special DGP Community Affairs Division (CAD), launched the project in front of senior police officers/officials, educators, and representatives from partner organisations. The campaign, which is being carried out in cooperation with the NGO Space2Grow and cybersecurity organizations Starlight Data Solutions and Cybercops Compliance Solutions, intends to reach approximately five lakh kids in Punjab through these seminars.

75 government school teachers participated in the first Training of Trainers (ToT) program. On the occasion, a poster and leaflet about children’s online safety were released.
Special DGP Cyber Crime Punjab V Neeraja addressed the inaugural session, emphasizing the critical importance of community duty in safeguarding children’s online safety. “The current generation of children is thoroughly entrenched in the digital environment. The Covid epidemic introduced the internet and smartphones into every household via online classes, making youngsters more tech-savvy than their parents. While this connectedness provides opportunity, it also exposes youngsters to serious online threats,” she stated.
According to current data from the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2025, 76% of Indian children aged 14-16 use cellphones for social media and 57% for education. “The widespread availability of digital content has also increased exposure to inappropriate material and cyber threats,” she made clear.
The Special DGP explained the rationale behind the campaign, saying, “The Cyber Jago program emerged from the idea that as guardians of the next generation, we must understand these dangers and take proactive steps to protect children online.” Teachers and parents must have open discussions with their children about online safety and initiate conversations regarding online threats.
She informed that the Cyber Jago program will help in capacity building of teachers from 3,968 Government High Schools across Punjab through Training of Trainers workshops, imparting them with knowledge to guide students on cyber hygiene and safe online practices; recognising and reporting red flags; safe social media behavior and digital communication; understanding AI-related threats; identifying and responding to OCSEA (Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse); an

Meanwhile, under this program, teachers will provide additional education to kids in their particular schools, equipping them to identify potential hazards and respond effectively when confronted with online threats.
