Despite winning the Asia Cup, India hasn’t received the trophy. ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi asks BCCI to collect it in person, sparking diplomatic tension.

Despite winning the Asia Cup almost a month ago, India is yet to accept the trophy after Pakistani minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), refused to give it to him.

After the ACC president failed to respond to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) repeated demands for the transfer, the BCCI recently sought the involvement of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

A Hindustan Times story claims that Naqvi has finally replied, inviting a BCCI official to come to Dubai and pick up the trophy from him in person, along with any other players from the victorious Indian squad.

Asia Cup Trophy Row: The BCCI’s Reported Response From Mohsin Naqvi

Regarding the Asia Cup trophy handover, Mohsin Naqvi allegedly responded to the BCCI as follows:

“The ACC trophy rightly belongs to the Indian cricket team and is being held in trust till such time that a BCCI office holder along with any available participating player can collect the same from the ACC President,”

“Such collection would of course be accompanied with much fanfare and coverage as there should be no deviation from established practices and no precedent should be set which undermines the spirit of the game we all love.” Naqvi is said to have added.

Indian athletes declined to make small talk with their Pakistani counterparts during the Asia Cup in the wake of the devastating Pahalgam terrorist incident.

India and Pakistan remained consistent throughout their three tournament meetings, including the championship match.
