The CM urged everyone to unite in celebrating the spirit of festivity and sustainability through green crackers, emphasizing the goal of achieving a “Green and Prosperous Delhi.”
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Wednesday that the Supreme Court’s verdict on green crackers respects people’s feelings on Diwali and is also a fair way to safeguard the environment.
Her comments came after the Supreme Court said that people in Delhi-NCR could buy and use fireworks from October 18 to 21.
She wrote on X in Hindi that the Delhi administration thanks the Supreme Court for letting the usage of green crackers in the national capital at the government’s request.
“This decision honors the feelings and festive spirit of the people on the holy day of Diwali, and it also shows a balanced approach to protecting the environment. The Delhi government is still totally committed to honoring what the people want and the idea of a clean and green Delhi. “She went on to say, “Our goal is to protect the environment while keeping the holiday spirit alive.”

She pushed people to get together to enjoy the harmony of celebration and sustainability with green crackers. She also underlined the need to work toward making the vision of a “Green and Prosperous Delhi” a reality. Kapil Mishra, a minister in Delhi, too praised the ordinance and said that people would enjoy Diwali in the traditional way after many years. He wrote in Hindi on X that “the ban on Hindu festivals has come to an end” now that the government in Delhi had changed.

It is good that the Supreme Court said that green crackers are okay on Diwali. He said on X in Hindi, “Thank you to Chief Minister @gupta_rekha ji and the Delhi government for bringing the people’s voice to the court.” The Supreme Court said that it was okay to sell and set off green fireworks in Delhi-NCR for Diwali.
A panel made up of Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran lifted the ban on green firecrackers after the Centre and Delhi government both asked for it.
