Haryana waives road cutting fees for water and sewer hookups for five years from Oct 1, benefiting thousands and encouraging regularization of connections.
For the next five years, the Haryana government has canceled the road cutting fees for water and sewer hookups. Hundreds of thousands of property owners in both urban and rural areas, including Gurugram, are anticipated to gain from the move. Customers now have two choices to regularize illicit connections thanks to the government.
With effect from October 1, the Haryana government has declared that all road cutting fees for water and sewer connections will be waived for the following five years. Vikas Gupta, the Commissioner and Secretary of the Department of Urban Local Bodies, sent out the notification.
Hundreds of thousands of property owners in both urban and rural areas, including Gurugram, are anticipated to gain from the move. There are currently more than 7,00,000 houses in the city and 1,84,000 regular water connections inside the boundaries of the Municipal Corporation Gurugram. According to surveys, a large number of locals use unauthorized connections, costing the company crores of rupees each month.
Customers now have two choices under the new policy:
1. Install a water metre and pay tariff-based bills, a water connection cost of Rs 1,000, a sewer fee of Rs 500, and no road cutting charges.
2. In addition to tariff rates, customers without meters will still be subject to the road cutting charge.
At the moment, the company owes Rs 165 crore to the GMDA. With four million residents, 1,84,000 regular connections are insufficient, and most connections lack meters, which has led to water waste and an increasing revenue shortfall. To remedy the shortfall and provide transparency, the agency has been handed a standard charge policy.
In order to promote improved water management in the city, Chief Engineer Vijay Dhaka said that the road cutting fee would be eliminated on October 1 and asked citizens to swiftly regularize their unauthorized connections.
