NEW DELHI :Businessman Samir Modi, executive director of Godfrey Phillips India and brother of fugitive ex-IPL chairman Lalit Modi, was arrested at Delhi airport on Thursday. Delhi Police confirmed that he was taken into custody following rape charges filed against him earlier this month.
Police sources revealed that an FIR was registered against Samir Modi on September 10 at New Friends Colony Police Station in Southeast Delhi. The charges fall under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint reportedly dates back to 2019, but action escalated after the fresh FIR was filed.
After his arrest, Modi was produced before a trial court, which granted one-day police custody. He is expected to be presented before the Saket Court as investigations continue.
