On September 5, Vikas Yadav requested an extension of his temporary bail for his wedding, but the judge denied his request.

the Delhi High Court directed the Delhi Police to confirm Vikas Yadav’s wedding date.Vikas Yadav was convicted in the 2002 murder case of Nitish Katara.The directives followed a plea by Nitish’s mother, who requested that Vikas be charged with perjury for purposefully lying in court in order to obtain release. Prior to his wedding on September 5, he had requested an extension of his temporary bail.

Because of Nitish’s friendship with his sister Bharti, Vikas, the son of strongman politician D P Yadav, had kidnapped Nitish and two other classmates from their classmate’s wedding in Ghaziabad and killed them.

Neelam Katara claimed in her application that Vikas had provided “false and fabricated” information; she included two pictures to prove that he got married on July 5 at “The Aura” in Sector 74 in Noida.

However, Vikas’s lawyer asserted that the pictures from July 5 were taken at his engagement.

Notably, on September 9, the High Court denied Vikas Yadav request for an extension of his temporary bail, citing maintainability and jurisdiction as the key reasons. The Supreme Court granted him temporary bail so that he could take care of his sick mother.

Advocate Vrinda Bhandari, speaking on behalf of Neelam, argued before Justice Ravider Dudeja that although Vikas Yadav was married in July, he purposefully misled the Delhi High Court about his wedding date being September 5 in order to receive temporary bail, “causing grave hindrance to the sanctity of the judicial process and administration of justice.”

For violating BNS sections 227 (giving false evidence), 231 (giving or fabricating false evidence), 234 and 235 (false certificate), Neelam requested that the Delhi High Court “initiate appropriate criminal proceedings” against Vikas Yadav for “intentionally and deliberately making false statements on oath, as well as producing false evidence, with the mala fide intent to avail undue benefit of interim bail.”

Vikas and the Delhi Police received a notice from Justice Dudeja instructing them to confirm Vikas’ wedding date and provide a status report to the court.

In 2016, the Supreme Court upheld Vikas and his cousin Vishal’s conviction and punishment of 25 years in prison without the possibility of remission. Sukhdev Pehalwan, another co-convict in the case, was also sentenced to 20 years in prison.
