MP panel led by CJI BR Gavai denied a plea to repair a damaged Lord Vishnu idol, telling the petitioner to “ask the deity itself.”

Delhi, New Delhi: Chief Justice of India CJI BR Gavai stated that his comments regarding the seven-foot idol of Lord Vishnu at the Javari Temple, which is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Khajuraho temple complex in Madhya Pradesh, were misrepresented on social media, according to Live Law. He also clarified that he respects all religions.

“I was just informed by someone that my remarks on social media were misrepresented,” the CJI stated.

He went on to say, “I respect all religions,”

CJI BR Gavai comments regarding the Khajuraho Lord Vishnu idol

A appeal for instructions to rebuild and reinstall a seven-foot deity of Lord Vishnu at the Javari Temple was denied by the Supreme Court on September 16. The court rejected the plea, referring to it as a “publicity interest litigation” instead.

“This lawsuit is solely for publicity purposes. Go implore the god himself to take action. You should pray and meditate if you claim to be a fervent follower of Lord Vishnu, the CJI stated.

According to the bench, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had direct authority over the matter.

Regardless of whether the ASI would allow it or not, it’s an archeological find. There are a number of problems,” the CJI stated.

“If you are not opposed to Shaivism, you can go and worship there in the interim,” the CJI continued. One of the largest Shiva lingas in Khajuraho is rather large.
