Delhi, New Delhi:  Shabana Azmi, a well-known Bollywood actress, has established herself in the Indian film industry. Her acting and socially oriented movies have earned her a lot of accolades. However, the actress had significant difficulties from the start of her existence.

Hyderabad is where Shabana Azmi was born.

On September 18, 1950, Shabana Azmi was born in Hyderabad. Her mother, Shaukat Azmi, was an actress, and her father, Kaifi Azmi, was a well-known poet. Shabana was exposed to literature and the arts from an early age, but she never let herself become a financial burden on her family.

She put a lot of effort into becoming independent while she was a student. She made thirty rupees a day selling coffee at a gas station for three months prior to starting college. She didn’t ever steal from her parents. The actress’s values and diligence brought her success.

The Bollywood debut of Shabana Azmi :

In 1974, Shabana Azmi made her cinematic debut in Ankur, directed by Shyam Benegal. She portrayed a pregnant maid in this movie. She won her first National Award because of how compelling her portrayal was. Her career was solidified with this movie, and her performance received widespread acclaim. She went on to work in both commercial and arthouse movies, playing every part to the highest standard. Among her films that focused on women’s issues are Arth, Khandhar, Par, and Godmother.

Winner of five National Awards

Over her career, Shabana  put in a lot of work, earned five National Film Awards, and made a name for herself. She also received multiple Filmfare Awards. She has a unique place in the industry because of her diligence, intelligence, and acting depth.

Renowned composer and lyricist Javed Akhtar was previously married when he married Shabana Azmi. In 1984, he married Shabana after divorcing his first wife. The pair is renowned for their maturity and special kind of love. Shabana never let this be a disappointment in her life, even though she was unable to enjoy the joy of motherhood. Two attempts at suicide :

Despite the various ups and downs in her personal life and family, Shabana never wavered in her commitment to hard work and her values. According to her mother Shaukat Azmi’s memoirs, Shabana struggled greatly as a youngster and made two unsuccessful attempts at suicide.

But each time she calmed down and went on. She is currently regarded as one of Bollywood’s most admired and inspirational actors due to her tenacity and enthusiasm. Shabana Azmi also starred in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, directed by Karan Johar, in July 2023.
