Teachers Extend Support on Teacher’s Day
In a remarkable gesture of solidarity, the National Awardee Teachers’ Association (NATA) Punjab has donated ₹1.25 lakh to support flood relief efforts in the state. The contribution, made on the occasion of Teacher’s Day, was handed over to Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains for the Punjab Chief Minister Flood Relief Fund.
The delegation, led by NATA President Dr. Balram Sharma, included several respected educators such as Amarjit Singh Chahal. They expressed their commitment to aiding both relief measures and the educational needs of children in flood-affected areas.
Dr. Sharma said the contribution symbolized the teaching community’s responsibility toward society, especially in times of crisis. “Teachers nurture not only classrooms but also communities. This donation is our way of standing with flood-affected families,” he noted.
Education Minister Praises Initiative
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains lauded the contribution, calling the National Awardee Teachers “the pride of the Education Department.” He highlighted their proactive role in supporting society beyond academics.
“These teachers have once again shown that their influence goes far beyond classrooms. Their initiative to support flood relief is commendable, and it will inspire many others to come forward,” Bains said.
The minister also emphasized that the contribution reflects the teaching community’s deep bond with the state and its people. He thanked the teachers for their willingness to extend full support to the government’s ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
Commitment to Education in Crisis
Along with financial support, the teachers’ body assured the government that it would help mitigate the academic losses faced by students in flood-affected regions. With many schools in rural areas damaged or disrupted, the association plans to assist in restoring normalcy for students.
Dr. Sharma and other members underlined that education should not be derailed by natural disasters. “Our students have already faced disruptions due to the pandemic. We cannot allow floods to further affect their future. NATA will continue to contribute to both relief and academic recovery,” they said.
The delegation credited Harjot Singh Bains for inspiring their move, noting his personal involvement in relief operations in Rupnagar district. Bains has been actively overseeing rescue efforts and coordinating with local teams to ensure timely aid reaches affected families.

The contribution by NATA is more than a financial donation. It represents the spirit of collective responsibility in times of hardship. Punjab’s floods have displaced thousands, destroyed homes, and damaged crops, placing enormous pressure on the state.
