CM Mann Monitors Relief While Recovering
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has continued to oversee the state’s flood relief operations even as he recovers at Fortis Hospital. On Saturday, he held a review meeting with Chief Secretary K. A. P. Sinha, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, and other senior officials.
Despite being under medical care, Mann stressed that no flood-affected family should be left behind. He instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted supply of food, drinking water, and medical aid to citizens, especially those stranded in isolated areas.
Chief Secretary Sinha later confirmed that the Chief Minister is recovering well and may be discharged within the next two days. “His heart and mind remain with thousands of families hit by floods. The Punjab Government is committed to healing the wounds and rebuilding homes,” Sinha said.
Floods Impact Millions Across Punjab
According to official data, more than 3.87 lakh people have been displaced due to the floods. The disaster has directly impacted over 20 lakh residents in 2,050 villages across all 23 affected districts. The state’s economy has taken a severe hit, with nearly 1.77 lakh hectares of crops damaged.
So far, the Punjab Government has evacuated 22,938 people from the worst-hit regions. Relief efforts include the establishment of 219 camps, currently housing 5,404 people. Despite these measures, the human toll remains tragic. At least 48 people have lost their lives, and three remain missing in Pathankot district.
Officials highlighted that rescue teams are working around the clock to assist marooned residents and restore essential services. The government has mobilized resources to supply clean water, medicines, and emergency rations in flood-ravaged villages.
Government’s Relief and Recovery Strategy
The state administration is prioritizing two key areas: immediate rescue and long-term rehabilitation. Senior officers briefed Mann on the deployment of emergency forces, coordination with district administrations, and support for farmers who have suffered heavy crop losses.
The Chief Minister has assured that financial assistance and compensation will be provided swiftly. Additionally, steps are being taken to ensure fair distribution of aid and transparent monitoring of relief operations.
The government has also urged community participation, encouraging local volunteers and NGOs to support relief camps and provide medical assistance. Officials are closely monitoring flood-affected districts to prevent outbreaks of waterborne diseases.

Even from his hospital bed, Mann has conveyed a strong message of solidarity with flood victims. His insistence on proactive governance reflects his administration’s resolve to leave no citizen behind.
With the Chief Minister expected to rejoin field operations soon, the state is preparing for an intensified push to stabilize affected areas. The Punjab Government has pledged to continue rescue missions, provide humanitarian aid, and initiate rehabilitation projects once the floodwaters recede.
