Two Terrorists Neutralised in Bandipora LoC Encounter
Srinagar, August 28 – Security forces foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Thursday, killing two terrorists during a brief gun battle.
The operation took place in the Gurez sector, near Naushehra Naar, after intelligence inputs suggested possible infiltration attempts. Acting on these alerts, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation under Operation Naushera Nar IV.
According to the Army’s Chinar Corps, the troops detected movement along the LoC and swiftly engaged the infiltrators. A short exchange of fire followed, leading to the elimination of two terrorists.
“Based on specific intelligence from Jammu and Kashmir Police, a joint operation was launched in the Gurez sector. Alert troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists,” the Army stated.
Joint Forces Respond Swiftly
Officials confirmed that the joint action was coordinated between ground troops and intelligence teams to prevent a potential breach. The exchange of fire was precise and brief, reflecting the preparedness of the security forces.
Following the encounter, security personnel cordoned off the area and conducted an extensive search operation to ensure no other infiltrators had crossed the border. As of Thursday evening, the operation remained under way to rule out the presence of additional suspects.
Senior Army officials noted that such infiltration attempts are part of a larger pattern, as groups continue to try and exploit the rugged terrain of Gurez to enter Indian territory. However, proactive intelligence gathering and enhanced troop presence have significantly strengthened the LoC defenses.
Rising Attempts Along the LoC
The Gurez sector, located in Bandipora district, has historically been one of the sensitive infiltration routes due to its mountainous terrain and proximity to the LoC. Security agencies have been on high alert in recent weeks following reports of increased movement across the border.
Earlier this month, security forces also foiled similar attempts in Kupwara and Poonch, highlighting the continuing challenge posed by cross-border infiltration. Officials believe these attempts are aimed at disrupting peace and security in the Kashmir Valley.
A senior police officer said, “Every infiltration bid is dealt with firmly. The joint operations are designed to ensure maximum coordination, so that infiltrators are intercepted before they reach civilian areas.”
Commitment to Security
The successful operation underscores the commitment of Indian forces to safeguarding the LoC and protecting civilians. By eliminating the infiltrators before they could cross into populated regions, security forces prevented potential attacks.
The incident has also sent a clear message to terror groups across the border that attempts to exploit vulnerable terrain will be met with swift and decisive action.
Local sources reported that security forces have further tightened patrolling along sensitive stretches of Bandipora district following Thursday’s encounter
