Kultar Singh Sandhwan Extends Support
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has announced that he will donate his one month’s salary to support families affected by the devastating floods in Punjab. The Speaker, who has long been associated with welfare organizations like the Bhai Ghanaiya Cancer Prevention Service Society and Good Morning Welfare Club, Kotkapura, emphasized that service to humanity is a guiding principle taught by the Gurus.
He said the state government would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that relief reaches every flood-hit household. Sandhwan described the ongoing crisis as one that has impacted not only people but also animals, crops, and vegetation across Punjab.
Appeal for Public Contribution
The Speaker also appealed to the public to come forward and contribute to the flood relief drive. He urged residents, NGOs, and welfare groups to donate essential items such as food grains, medicines, drinking water, fodder for animals, and daily necessities.
“Those who love humanity should contribute generously,” Sandhwan said, encouraging donations before September 2. He added that collective efforts would help the state recover faster from the devastation.

Previous Relief Contributions
In addition to this latest contribution, Sandhwan highlighted that an earlier announcement had already resulted in the donation of ₹10 lakh for diesel services to strengthen embankments along rivers. This fund was directed toward protecting vulnerable areas from further damage caused by rising water levels.
Chairman Gurmeet Singh Arewala and Mehar Singh Channi confirmed that the earlier aid was already put to use and had strengthened local embankments, preventing further erosion and flooding.
Community Response to Floods
The Speaker’s initiative comes at a time when Punjab continues to battle the aftermath of floods triggered by heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and parts of Punjab. Thousands of families remain displaced, while large tracts of farmland have been submerged.
Civil society organizations and welfare groups have joined the government in setting up relief camps, distributing food packets, and providing fodder for animals. The Speaker’s call for collective support is expected to encourage more people to participate in relief efforts.
Sandhwan reiterated that the spirit of Punjabiyat—helping one another in times of crisis—must guide all relief initiatives. “When humanity is suffering, every contribution, small or big, matters,” he said.
