AAP protests against BJP MLA over hospital incident
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest on Friday outside Acharya Sree Bhikshu Hospital in Delhi, demanding strict police action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Harish Khurana. The protest came after doctors accused the Moti Nagar legislator of assault during a surprise inspection on Thursday evening.

According to the doctors’ association, residents and interns present during the incident have confirmed that the confrontation turned hostile. However, they also said the matter was later resolved after repeated apologies from the alleged culprit. The association added that such incidents have occurred in the past and stressed the need to strengthen hospital security.
Doctors’ complaints and hospital response
The controversy began when Khurana visited the hospital to investigate complaints of alleged misbehavior by doctors. Videos shared on social media showed heated exchanges between the MLA and medical staff, as he was accompanied by a group of supporters.
Khurana alleged that he found a child with a bleeding hand in the emergency ward. When he asked a doctor to attend to the patient, he claimed the doctor refused and misbehaved. “I went to the hospital like a commoner to check the truth. The child needed urgent care, yet the doctor did not respond properly,” Khurana said.
The doctors, however, have filed written complaints, stating that the MLA’s behavior amounted to an assault. Despite 40 doctors submitting complaints, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered so far, AAP claimed in its statement.
Khurana rejects allegations, blames AAP
Harish Khurana has strongly denied assaulting any doctor. He accused AAP leaders of spreading falsehoods for political mileage. “If they have evidence of any assault, let them present it. I only demanded better treatment for patients,” he said.
Khurana maintained that the matter was settled in the presence of senior doctors and police officials, calling the protests a political stunt. His supporters circulated videos showing arguments but no physical violence.
AAP escalates demand for action
AAP’s Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj condemned the alleged incident and called it “shameful.” He said, “The assault on a government hospital intern doctor by the BJP MLA and his supporters is unacceptable.”
Party MLA Sanjeev Jha also demanded strict action and stronger protection for medical staff. AAP leaders announced that they will seek meetings with the Delhi Police Commissioner and Union Home Minister to raise the issue.
The party emphasized that the safety of doctors in government hospitals must not be compromised and urged authorities to take immediate legal steps.
Broader concerns over doctor safety in Delhi
The confrontation has reignited debates about the safety of healthcare workers in Delhi’s public hospitals. Medical associations have long called for stronger legal safeguards against violence toward doctors.
The Acharya Sree Bhikshu Hospital staff noted that similar incidents of political interference and confrontation have occurred earlier. They demanded additional security measures, including better surveillance and police presence during late-night shifts.
Observers say the matter could escalate further if police fail to act on the doctors’ complaints. With AAP sharpening its political attack and BJP defending its MLA, the incident has become a flashpoint ahead of local political campaigns in the capital.
