Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov killed in Moscow car bomb. Authorities probe links to Ukrainian forces amid rising attacks on Russian leaders.
Russia: According to a statement from authorities, a senior Russian general was killed in southern Moscow on Monday after an explosive device planted beneath his automobile detonated.
The “murder” of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, the chief of the General Staff’s training department, has been the subject of an investigation by Russia’s Investigative Committee, which looks into serious crimes.
Among the lines of investigation was the potential that the incident was “linked” to “Ukrainian special forces,” the statement stated.
Several attacks against Russian military leaders and pro-Kremlin figures in Russia and in Ukrainian areas under Russian control have been attributed to Kyiv since Moscow dispatched soldiers into Ukraine in February 2022.

In April, General Yaroslav Moskalik, a General Staff deputy, was killed in an automobile accident close to Moscow.
According to Ukraine’s SBU security service, Igor Kirillov, the commander of Russia’s chemical, biological, and radiological defense forces, was killed in December 2024 when an electric scooter that had been booby-trapped exploded in Moscow.
In April 2023, Maxim Fomin, a Russian military blogger, was killed in a Saint Petersburg cafe when a figurine exploded.
Additionally, in August 2022, Daria Dugina, the daughter of ultranationalist ideologue Alexander Dugin, was assassinated by a car bomb.
