Wellington:
In a significant decision, Air New Zealand has appointed Nikhil Ravishankar, an executive of Indian origin, as its new Chief Executive Officer. He will officially take on the role on October 20, 2025, replacing outgoing CEO Greg Foran.
Ravishankar has been the airline’s Chief Digital Officer since 2019. He is recognized for improving its digital systems, customer experience, and loyalty programs. His promotion follows a global search by the airline’s board, which highlighted his leadership, tech skills, and strong understanding of New Zealand’s business environment.
The airline is currently dealing with a challenging situation involving global supply chain issues, competition from regional carriers, and ongoing aircraft maintenance problems. Ravishankar’s focus on digital leadership is expected to guide Air New Zealand through these difficulties.
Board Chair Dame Therese Walsh welcomed the appointment, mentioning that Ravishankar’s inclusive and values-driven approach fits well with the airline’s culture and long-term goals.
His appointment is viewed as a positive step not only for the airline but also for promoting diversity in the upper ranks of global aviation.
