Dubai faces intense rainfall; police warn residents to stay indoors, avoid flood-prone areas as Abu Dhabi and Gulf nations issue alerts.

Police in Dubai have advised citizens to stay inside as the desert nation is battered by intense rain. Thursday’s rai follows last year’s record-breaking rains that swamped the city.

A police advisory issued to residents’ phones read, “For your safety, please remain cautious as unstable weather conditions are expected in the coming hours, and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary until midday on Friday,” according to AFP.

A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Thursday and Friday, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, according to the United Arab Emirates’ National Centre of Meteorology.

The Gulf governments of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, in addition to the United Arab Emirates, have also issued alerts following Thursday’s intense rains.

The Abu Dhabi Civil Defense has also urged people to be caution in light of the unpredictable weather, according to a Khaleej  report.

Residents were advised by the authorities to exercise caution and stay alert when it rains. Additionally, residents were advised by the Abi Dhabi government to stay away from flash flood-prone locations.

Dubai experiences record rains.

Record rains in the UAE in 2024 caused Dubai and other cities to come to a full standstill. The streets turned into rivers and houses were inundated by last year’s April storms.

Dubai airport, the busiest international passenger hub in the world, was also hampered by the record rainfall, which was made worse by a shortage of storm drains.
