The widespread X outage that disrupted services for thousands of users worldwide on Monday has largely been resolved, though questions remain about what caused the disruption.
The social media platform owned by Elon Musk experienced significant technical issues, leaving users unable to access feeds, post content, refresh timelines, or log into their accounts. At the height of the X outage, more than 35,000 users reported problems, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector.
X Outage Triggers App Crashes, Feed Failures and Login Issues
Many users encountered blank timelines, outdated feeds, app crashes, and server connection errors. The disruption affected both the X mobile application and website, with the app accounting for the largest share of complaints.
As the X outage unfolded, users quickly migrated to other social media platforms to confirm whether the service interruption was widespread. The incident sparked discussions across the internet, with many users expressing frustration over the inability to access one of the world’s most-used social networking platforms.
Downdetector Recorded Thousands of Complaints
Downdetector data showed that mobile app-related issues represented nearly 45 percent of complaints, while feed and timeline problems accounted for around 30 percent. Website access issues made up approximately 15 percent of the reports.
Although services gradually returned for most users within hours, some continued to report intermittent glitches and slow performance. By late Monday evening, the number of outage reports had dropped significantly, indicating that the platform was recovering from the disruption.
No Official Explanation Yet
Neither X nor Elon Musk immediately provided a detailed explanation regarding the cause of the X outage. The company also did not disclose how many users were affected globally.

Industry experts noted that the actual number of affected users may have been much higher than the reported figures, as outage-tracking platforms rely on voluntary user submissions.
Other Online Services Also Affected
The disruption was not limited to X. Around the same time, several other online services, including Reddit, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Robinhood, also recorded spikes in outage reports.
Cloudflare, a major internet infrastructure and cybersecurity provider, reported increased error rates and latency across multiple services. However, the company did not confirm whether these issues were directly connected to the X outage.
Service Largely Restored
While most users have regained access to the platform, the incident highlighted the growing dependence on social media and cloud-based services for communication, news, and business activities.
With services now largely restored, users and industry observers continue to await an official explanation for the X outage, one of the platform’s most notable disruptions in recent months.
