Instagram : Meta is reportedly working on a new feature called “Instants”, designed to let users send disappearing messages, photos, and videos to friends, similar to Snapchat. According to reports, the company is developing an internal prototype, but it is not yet available for external testing.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider that Instants is currently in development as a standalone app. The focus will be on sharing temporary photos and videos, though the app is not yet being trialed publicly.
Instants Feature Coming to Instagram
The disappearing media feature may also be integrated into Instagram. Mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi found references to Instants on Instagram’s “Also from Meta” page. It is described as a way for users to send disappearing photos to friends.

Previously known as Shots, Instants will be tested in select countries. Users will be able to send disappearing media via Direct Messages (DMs), which will vanish after being viewed and automatically expire 24 hours after sending. Only followers who follow each other back will be able to send Instants, and messages cannot be edited.
Comparison to Existing Instagram Features
Instagram already offers temporary messaging tools such as “View Once” photos and videos and vanish mode in DMs. Instants aims to streamline these experiences, offering a more Snapchat-like approach for sending disappearing content within Instagram.
