Gemini 3.5 Flash : At the highly anticipated Google I/O 2026 keynote, Google unveiled a series of major AI announcements focused on expanding the capabilities of its Gemini ecosystem. From faster AI models to advanced video generation tools, the event highlighted Google’s ambition to make AI more powerful, accessible, and deeply integrated into everyday workflows.
The biggest highlights of the event included the launch of Gemini Omni, Google’s new multimodal AI video model, and the introduction of the Gemini 3.5 series designed for faster performance and advanced agentic AI tasks.
Google Introduces Gemini 3.5 Flash
Google announced the new Gemini 3.5 lineup as the successor to the Gemini 3.1 series. The company says the latest models bring significant improvements in coding, reasoning, multimodal understanding, and agentic AI capabilities.
The first model rolling out globally is Gemini 3.5 Flash, which is now available through the Gemini app, AI Mode in Google Search, AI Studio, Android Studio, and Google’s Antigravity developer platform.

According to Google, Gemini 3.5 Flash delivers flagship-level AI performance while operating faster and at a lower cost than competing frontier AI models. The company claims the model outperformed rivals including Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4.6, Claude Opus 4.7, and OpenAI GPT-5.5 in multiple benchmark tests related to financial analysis, long-context processing, and agentic workflows.
Google also highlighted the model’s speed, revealing that Gemini 3.5 Flash can generate responses at up to 289 tokens per second.
Google Demonstrates Advanced AI Agents
One of the most eye-catching demonstrations during the keynote focused on the agentic AI abilities of Gemini 3.5 Flash.
Google showcased how the model used the Antigravity platform to build a fully functional operating system in around 12 hours. According to the company, the project involved 93 AI agents working simultaneously and cost less than $1,000 in API usage.
The demonstration emphasized Google’s growing focus on AI systems capable of independently planning, coordinating, and executing complex tasks without continuous human input.
Gemini Omni Brings Multimodal AI Video Generation
The biggest announcement at Google I/O 2026 was undoubtedly Gemini Omni, which Google describes as its most advanced multimodal AI model for video creation.
Unlike traditional AI tools, Gemini Omni can reportedly process text, images, audio, and video together within a single prompt to generate or edit video content. Google demonstrated conversational video editing features where users could naturally describe changes to backgrounds, characters, or objects inside videos.
Currently, the Omni Flash model is mainly focused on AI-powered video generation, but the technology signals Google’s broader ambitions in creative AI tools and content production.
Gemini Omni Expands to YouTube and Google Apps
Google confirmed that Gemini Omni Flash is rolling out globally to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers through the Gemini app and Google Flow.
The company also announced that some Gemini Omni-powered features are beginning to appear on YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app starting this week. Select features will reportedly be available to users for free.
Google Pushes Deeper Into the AI Race
With the launch of Gemini Omni and Gemini 3.5 Flash, Google appears to be accelerating its push into next-generation AI experiences. The announcements at Google I/O 2026 showed a clear focus on multimodal AI, autonomous AI agents, and AI-powered creativity, areas that are rapidly becoming the center of competition among major tech companies.
